About Us
Dedicated Instructor
My name is Son Burns, and I am founder and lead instructor of Mountain Stream Firearms Training. After serving 4 years in the Marine Corps, I embarked on a career in public education.
Mountain Stream Firearms Training was developed to educate people on the basics of firearms safety and handling.
Many people who own firearms may have little or no formal training on how to properly use, or care for, their firearms.
Mountain Stream Firearms Training is designed to take shooters with little or no training, and provide them with the fundamental skills they need to be safe, confident and proficient. This training is also great for skilled shooters who want to maintain their fundamentals.
High-Quality Instruction
Mountain Stream Firearms Training offers the following NRA courses, The Basics of Pistol Shooting and Basic Rifle Shooting.
As your instructor I will offer you a safe, respectful, educational and professional environment in which to learn basic pistol and rifle handling skills.
I have a background as a marksmanship instructor in the Marine Corps, a public school principal, and a firearms enthusiast.
Programs
Basic Pistol $175
The Basic Pistol Shooting Class is a perfect way to begin your introductory training. The program is designed to teach the basics knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary for the safe, proper and ethical use of firearms.
If you have never fired a pistol, don't worry, no experience is required. If learning to shoot a pistol is new to you, I will do my best to provide you with a safe, respectful, educational and professional opportunity.
Completion of this course fulfills the requirements for your Oregon, Arizona, and Utah Concealed Handgun Licenses.
Basic Rifle $200
The Basic Rifle class teaches the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude for owning and operating a rifle safely.
Topics include: safe gun handling and storage; ammunition knowledge; fundamentals of rifle shooting; selecting, purchasing, and maintaining a rifle; and continued opportunities for skill development.
Oregon, Arizona, and Utah Concealed Handgun License $80
Completion of this course meets all the requirements for your Oregon, Arizona, and Utah Concealed Handgun License.

Quality Holster
- Holster must be strong side ONLY
- Must cover the trigger guard
- No cross draw, shoulder, purse, fanny pack or ankle holsters
- Holster must stay open to allow one handed holstering (IWB Holsters)
- Bring a strong belt to use with the holster
Magazines or Speed Loaders
- Semi auto pistol owners bring at least 2 magazines
- Revolver owners bring at least 2 speed loaders

- Eye protection must be ANSI rated
- Ear muffs over ear plugs is the preferred ear protection

- Hat with a brim, which prevents hot brass from going between your eyes and glasses
- No tank tops, low cut shirt and v-necks
- Shorts are fine
- We train no matter the weather. Make sure to dress appropriately.
